Champions valiantly defend their cause, surpassing all rivals in the face of defeat. Champions stand tall, making strides towards greatness as competition trails behind. Champions triumph against all odds in the path forged towards victory. At Boise State University, Dance Marathon is where champions are celebrated.

The Boise State Dance Marathon team believes in challenging the community to build a foundation for change that creates lasting effects on children, students, and the surrounding community. Boise State Dance Marathon revolves around one belief; change is always within reach, if you are willing to grab it, go out and get it.

Dance Marathon strives to support the care and treatment of St. Luke's children and to celebrate exemplary champions who overcome huge battles. As Boise State University kicks off its 2016 campaign, we recall a notable champion of St. Luke's Children's Hospital, Vann Edwards. Born on December 13, 2008 Vann Makai Edwards was birthed at 25 weeks gestation. He weighed 1 lb. 13 oz. and was 13.5 inches long. Vann experienced PDA ligation, a bilateral intraventricular hemorrhage, kidney reflux and an onslaught of life threatening obstacles before his first breath of air. Fast-forward 103 painstaking days in the St. Luke’s NICU, and 6 lb. 8 oz. Vann was finally released homeward after a miraculous recovery.

For the first 2 years of his life, Vann received developmental home therapy in cognitive and rudimentary skill building geared toward his gestational age. According to Vann’s mother and father, the care Vann received at St. Luke’s Children’s Hospital was indispensable, as they couldn’t have asked for a greater experience under such circumstances. The NICU staff and Vann’s specialty physicians hold a special place in the hearts of Vann's family and the Boise State Dance Marathon family as Dance marathon exists to support the foundations provided by the implacable staff and care provided by St. Luke’s Children’s Hospital.

Boise State University continues to work with Dance Marathon and champions like Vann Edwards because of its effects both directly on the children of St. Luke’s hospital and indirectly with the community, students, and children affected along the way. Dance Marathon helps St. Luke’s Children’s Hospital maintain the best care and advancements in the care of children of all ages. Boise State Dance Marathon also strives to build awareness in the community about the need to sustain and support our local Children’s Hospital.
