12 Days and Counting

It’s 3:22pm as I sit to write this dribble of conglomerated run-on sentences. The French press is kicking in. There’s a delicate, near deliberate, cadence to the slow dance between the sun and clouds behind me. I can’t help but fervently glance at the upper right-hand corner of my computer screen; 3:42pm.

As the clock ticks closer to Dance Marathon 2016, we reach a pivotal moment in the countdown. 55% of $80,000 in donations met and we’ve pulled down the donor thermometer from our event page. Suspense seeps over me. $35,000 to go and we can only hope to meet our goal.

The idea of time and the premium humans place on it replays in my head over and over again. I begin to wonder if the champions of St. Luke’s value time the way the rest of the world does. Do they measure time in visits to the hospital, positive test results, or birthdays celebrated? The question persists.

If time is best measured through every smile, laugh, and moment shared at Dance Marathon, we believe $80,000 makes it possible for even more champions to live this reality.

We appreciate every ounce of effort placed into Dance Marathon through the students of Boise State and members of the community. We understand the value of donors' and participants' time. With this thought in mind, if every donor can only give one time this year, we ask each and every reader to remember our cause moving forward. Boise State Dance Marathon doesn't measure success in dollars. We measure success in decibels of laughter, joy, and the opportunity to celebrate the champions of St. Luke’s. This is why we dance. This is why we donate.

Another glance at the upper right-hand corner of my screen; 5:25pm. The clock ticks forward. As the sun sets behind me, it continues to dance over my shoulder like Boise State will dance for the champions of St. Luke's in 12 short days.

$80,000 to raise, 17 hours to dance, 12 days to go. Let's do this, Boise State.
